Birju Kishor Salla was sentenced for a hijack and bomb threat which caused a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Delhi to be diverted to Ahmedabad in October 2017. Salla, wrote on a tissue box in the toilets that there were hijackers and explosives on the plane and to divert the plane to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Salla claimed that he planted the note with the hope that Jet Airways would close its Delhi operations so that his girlfriend, who works there, would return to Mumbai. Salla is the first person to be placed on India’s no fly list. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 5 crore (c. 571,100).
