Uganda’s Civil Aviation Authority’s deputy director general, Fred Bamwesigye, sent a letter to Milton Odongo, Lira Resident District Commissioner, stating that illegal activity on Lira Airfield must stop. Bamwesigye alleged that, since 2015, the council had given part of the airfield to private developers who built illegal structures on the airstrip. The alleged activity has made the airfield unsafe and only light aircraft have been allowed to operate on the airfield.
