18 JULY 2019: DANVERS, MASSACHUSETTS

Richard Vaux, a TWA pilot, passed away from congestive heart failure aged 85. In June 1985, TWA flight 847 had been hijacked by Hezbollah shortly after take-off from Athens. Weeks after the hijacking had ended, in August 1985, Vaux and two crew members travelled to Beirut to retrieve the vandalised aircraft but, before take-off, militia members threatened him before eventually allowing him to fly the aircraft to Cyprus.
