An Aeronav/Kenya School of Flying aircraft, registration 5Y-VVA, was carrying aid as part of the World Food Program to Qansax Dheere in the Bay region when it was targeted by gunfire. The aircraft managed to land safely despite suffering damage to the wing and fuselage area. This is the second time a Kenyan aircraft was shot down over the Bay region, the first occurring on 8 May. Reports alleged that Ethiopian troops could have been behind the shooting as they control the Qansax Dheere airfield.
