Around 30 armed members of the New People’s Army (NPA), a militant faction of Communist Party of the Philippines, caused approximately P40 million (c. £590,000) worth of damage in an attack on the new Bicol Airport, which is currently under construction. The action was allegedly in retaliation for the fact that the building contractor refused to pay ‘revolutionary taxes’ to the group.
