A campaign was launched for the removal of a statue of actor, John Wayne, and the name ‘John Wayne’ from John Wayne Airport. Campaigners stated that they want the airport’s original name, Orange County Airport, to be restored after an interview from 1971 with the actor resurfaced. In the interview Wayne made racist and bigoted comments towards black people, Native Americans and the LGBTQ community.
