Reports emerged that Samoa Airport Authority staff were allegedly threatened by villagers from Satapuala opposed to the runway extension under construction. The conflict began when workers demolished houses in order to extend the runway. Community leaders signed an agreement 35 years ago to move to properties further inland, but some families had not yet moved.
