Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani, an American Airlines mechanic was arrested for sabotaging a 150-passenger aircraft in order to get paid overtime. In July, Alani had glued a hard foam substance inside a tube that connects the air data module to an outside sensor. The aircraft was subsequently grounded after the pilot aborted take-off due to an error message. Alani, who is a member of the mechanics’ union, was frustrated at the contract negotiations between the union and the airline (the union was encouraging their members to slowdown work). Alani was identified on CCTV footage accessing the navigational compartment for seven minutes.
