9 JULY 2019: MUMBAI, INDIA

William Fernandes, 49, arrived at Mumbai airport from Tel Aviv and was denied boarding his connecting Air India flight to Mangalore because it was overbooked. William used a wheelchair and had returned to India to receive urgent treatment for a spinal cord injury. William and his friend, Arun Fernandes, arrived for their rebooked flight the next day, but William passed away in a car outside the airport whilst Arun looked for wheelchair for his friend. The cause of death is unclear, but William’s family have filed a complaint of negligence against the airline for not allowing William on the flight despite his health condition and having arrived two hours before the flight.
