Amanda Sommerfeldt and her husband Scott Sommerfeldt were questioned by police after their Air New Zealand flight from Auckland landed in Invercargill on suspicion of human trafficking. The Sommerfeldts were travelling with their 11-year-old son, Liam, and 8-year-old adopted daughter, Megan, who is Chinese. A passenger informed Air New Zealand staff that Megan did not look related to the couple and feared she was being smuggled. Air New Zealand contacted the police rather than talking to the parents directly to confirm their identities.
