Athens Becomes First European Airport to Use SITA Biometrics at Security

Athens Airport has become the first airport in Europe to trial SITA Smart Path. Passengers flying with Aegean Airlines from Athens can use their facial biometrics to identify themselves at key stages of the check-in process, without having to show their passport or boarding card. Passengers who utilise the trial service scan their passport and have their photo taken upon arrival. Passengers can then proceed to security where they can be verified as a known traveller, by having their face scanned, and fast track through security. This system reduces passenger check-in time. Smart Path can integrate with the airport’s existing common-use check-in kiosks and boarding gates, which is cost-effective and increases its accessibility to multiple airlines.
